Dorothy Ashley "Dot" Waters, 89, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Magnolia Manor. Born January 27, 1921 in Abbeville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Vance and Anna Wheeler Ashley and the wife of the late James Paran Waters. A graduate of Winthrop College, she was an executive assistant to the Director of Admissions at Wofford College and was a high school teacher in Kershaw County. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, was active in the youth ministry and Circle 2, and was a charter member of the American Business Women's Association. Survivors include a daughter, Anslie J. Waters of Spartanburg; a son, James Richard Waters and his wife Deborah of Lewes, DE.; a grandson, Jason Richard Waters and his wife Alison of Washington, DC; a granddaughter, Ashley L. Stokes and husband Patrick of Hillsborough, NJ; three great- grandchildren; Nathaniel Waters, Samantha Waters and Anna Rose Stokes; a sister, Sara A. Clemmons of Florence; She was predeceased by a brother, Buddy Ashley; a sister Anna Margaret Ashley; and three special sisters-in- law, Procia Waters Swan, Vera Waters Payne and Verlie Waters Caldwell. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Steven H. Rhodes.
