Dorothy Walker

Dorothy Mathis Walker, 85, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at Elizabeth House, Flat Rock, NC. Born February 24, 1932, in Polk County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Furman and Maude Pack Mathis and widow of H. Garland Walker. Mrs. Walker loved gardening, cooking, and spending time at church. She was a member of Croft Baptist Church and retired from Hoechst Celanese. Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Walker of Fletcher, NC; son, Roger Walker of Piedmont, SC; grandchildren, Rev. Carrie Walker Nettles (Mason) of Piedmont, SC; great-grandchildren, Brigid Nettles and Bret Nettles; and brother, Garland Mathis (Bonnie). In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers, William Mathis, Charles Mathis, and Dean Mathis; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Walker. Visitation will be 12:45-1:45 PM Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Carrie Walker Nettles and the Rev. Joe Dempsey. Burial will be in Green River Baptist Church Cemetery, 2880 Ken Miller Rd., Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
