Dorothy Nolen Edge, 89, of RoseCrest Retirement Community, died on Saturday, June 4, 2011. She was the widow of Robert Reid Edge. Born November 16, 1921 in Spartanburg County, Mrs. Edge was the daughter of the late Curtis L. Nolen, Sr., and Sallie Blalock Nolen. She was the last member of her immediate family. She attended Cecil's Business College and later worked with the US Department of Agriculture (ASCA office), the Internal Revenue Service, and after her retirement, she worked in the Spartanburg re-election campaign office of US Senator Ernest Hollings. She enjoyed attending camellia shows throughout the southeast with her husband when he exhibited show camellias grown in his greenhouse, often having the best bloom in the show. Her favorite hobbies were gardening and tending to her English boxwoods. Some of her happiest moments were digging in the soil. She enjoyed collecting antiques as well as cherishing a collection of needlepoint pieces. She especially loved crocheting beautiful afghans for relatives and friends. After her marriage, she joined Nazareth Presbyterian Church where her husband had been a life long member. She is survived by nephew, Phillip C. Sutton; nieces, Susan C. Sutton and Teri Sutton Carlton (Henry); brother-in-law, Conway B. Sutton; and great-nieces, Caroline Sutton Carlton and Sarah Elizabeth Carlton. She was predeceased by brothers, Otis W. Nolen and Curtis L. Nolen, Jr.; sisters, Madeline Nolen Seay Wofford and Betty Nolen Sutton. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00PM, Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, June 6, 2011 at Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery at the family plot, conducted by the Rev. David Sutton.
