Dorothy "Dot" Williams Smith, 87, of Summit Hills, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born, November 8, 1923, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles Vernon and Flora Teal Williams and widow of former State Senator Horace C. Smith. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, charter member of Fernwood Baptist Church, current member of Morningside Baptist Church, member of the Palmetto Cabinet, former member of Spartanburg Legal Auxiliary, volunteer for the American Diabetes Association and recipient of ADA's Lifetime Achievement Award, also former volunteer for the Spartanburg Heart Association. Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia S. Holland (Robert); two sons, David C. Smith (Charlene) and Stephen H. Smith (Sharon), all of Spartanburg; granddaughters, Amanda S. Wolfe, Jennifer Smith, Lindsey Smith Batavia (Neil), and Kesler Belmont; grandsons, Stephen H. Smith, Jr., Nicholas L. Belmont, Jr.; step-grandsons, John, William and Joseph Holland; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances W. Ballard. She was predeceased by a son, Dennis Charles Smith. A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Morningside Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.
