Dorothy Cooper

January 20, 1924 — March 8, 2012

Dorothy Mae Cooper, 88, formerly of 128 Cromer Street, Roebuck, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Magnolia Manor-Inman. Born January 20, 1924, in Clinton, SC, she was the daughter of the late Fielding Luther and Ressa Franks Riddle. Mrs. Cooper was a graduate of the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind where she was a member of the basketball team and inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Prior to her retirement from the school, she was a Residential Advisor. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where she assisted with the Deaf Revival. Survivors include her husband, Rudolph G. Cooper; a daughter, Debby Henderson and husband Michael of Spartanburg; and two grandsons, Michael Chad Henderson of Columbia and Marty Brooks Henderson of Spartanburg. She was predeceased by two brothers, Willie and Delmar Riddle; and three sisters, Julia Irving, Madia Fuller, and Mary Burns. Visitation will be 12:30-1:45 PM Saturday, March 10, 2012, in the parlor of Davis Chapel at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bill Adams and the Rev. Sam Davis. Burial will be in Westwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind, Walker Foundation, 355 Cedar Springs Road, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home of her daughter, Debby Henderson, 110 Bayberry Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
