Doris Welchel

Doris Gossett Welchel, 82, of Spartanburg, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Dillon Pointe. Born February 6, 1932, in Woodruff, SC, she was the daughter of the late Paul Leland and Tallulah Snow Gossett and the widow of Jerry Eugene Welchel. She attended Winthrop College, was Supervisor of the Hematology Lab at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for over 40 years, and was co-founder of Welchel Furniture and a member of the Gideon Auxiliary. She collected dolls and loved the beach and reading. Mrs. Welchel taught Sunday School at Beaumont Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Survivors include sons, Randy Welchel (Renae) and Daryl Welchel (Cindy), all of Spartanburg; her beloved granddaughters, Kimberly Welchel of Seneca, SC and Madison Welchel (Michael Petty) of Spartanburg; beloved great-granddaughter, Micaela Petty; and a brother, James Gossett (June). Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, June 2, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton, the Rev. Sal Barone, and the Rev. John Cox. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Spartanburg Building Fund, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. The family is at the home of Randy and Renae Welchel, 311 Rosecrest Road, Spartanburg, SC.
