Doris Marguerite Martin Tate

Doris Martin Tate, 87, of Spartanburg, passed away on Tuesday morning, August 13, 2024, at Spartanburg Medical Center-Mary Black Campus. Doris was born on March 23, 1937, in Spartanburg County, a daughter of the late Farlen Henry Martin and Jessie Mae Harris Martin. She was married for 62 years to the late James Alvin Tate, who passed away in 2018. 

Doris was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She worked for Butte Knit (Jonathan Logan Corporation) and later retired from Spartan Foods. Some of her favorite hobbies were collecting and shopping for antiques and gardening. 

Surviving are her children, Barry Dale Tate of Campobello, SC and Pamela Lynn Michaels-Mangum (Paul) of Spartanburg; brother-in-law, Joseph Benjamin Burnett, and sister-in-law, Brenda Arthur (Wayne); her granddaughter, Lorelei Lynn Rickards (Ryan) of Buford, Ga; and her great-grandchildren, Preston, Cadence, and Skylar. Doris’s friends, staff, and caregivers at Eden Terrace held a very special place in her heart. They enabled her to spend this past year enjoying life to the fullest, and now she is dancing in heaven. She was predeceased by her siblings, Betty Sprouse Holland, and Earl Leroy Martin.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. David Turner. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 635 Mt. Pleasant Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
