Doris Rudeen

November 13, 1942 — January 24, 2013

Doris Sewell Rudeen, 70, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born November 13, 1942, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Glenn Sewell, Sr. and Virginia McCarter Sewell. Doris was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Doris was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College. She was a bookkeeper and was instrumental in the creation and success of multiple business ventures through the years. She was the co-owner of Service Electric Co., Loving Care Daycare, DDT Construction, and DDT Investments. Doris was a licensed builder and, along with her husband, developed Tymberbrook Subdivision in Lyman. When she earned her contractor's license in the late 80's she was one of only a few women licensed in SC. She was a member of Spartanburg Gun Club for many years and SC Ladies Skeet Shooting Champion 2 years. She was a member of Ruth Memorial Presbyterian Church, no longer in existence, where she taught Sunday School and was Youth Leader. She was currently a member of First Presbyterian Church Spartanburg. In spite of having RA since she was 5 years old, she persevered and greeted each day with a smile. She loved to travel. Doris and Tommy would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on February 17. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Tommy M. Rudeen; a daughter, Donna Frady and Kevin Mills of Spartanburg; one grandson, Brett Frady and his wife Chelsea of Pacolet; three sisters, Dianne Gault and her husband Randy of Cross Hill, Judy Sewell and Marsha Smith, both of Spartanburg; a brother, Joe Sewell of Spartanburg; and a sister in law, Evelyn Rudeen Herman of Rock Hill. She was predeceased by a brother Glenn "Buck" Sewell, Jr. She will also be missed by her devoted welsh corgi "Buddy". Visitation will be 1:30 to 2:45 PM Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ansley Page and the Rev. Kevin Loftis.
