Doris Revels

A celebration took place in Heaven on Sunday, December 4, 2016, when Doris Tennyson Revels, 85, of Spartanburg, SC, was ushered by angels into the presence of God. Born December 28, 1930, in Drayton, SC, she was the daughter of the late Fred Oliver and Willie Mae Foster Tennyson and widow of Jesse Willard Revels. She has been reunited with Willard and they will spend Christmas together with Jesus this year. A devoted mother and grandmother, Doris loved her family and prayed for each and every one by name each day. She loved to read her Bible, attend church, and spend time with her family. She was a great cook and enjoyed sewing, quilting, working with flowers, and sending cards to family and friends. Doris was a faithful and active member of Love Springs Baptist Church. She worked in textiles at Drayton and Spartan Mills before she retired. Survivors include her children, Gene Revels (Linda) of Cowpens, SC, Martha Revels Grigg (Wayne) of Spartanburg, SC, Jeanette Revels Walls (Dewey) of Gaffney, SC, and Becky Revels McAbee (Stan Bradley) of Moore, SC; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Leon, Don, Bill, and Bob Tennyson; and sisters, Evelyn Taylor, Joyce Parris, and Elizabeth Dover. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Shannon Revels, and brothers, Harold, Boyce, and Joe Tennyson. Visitation will be 1:00-2:45 PM Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Love Springs Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ron Culbertson. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Love Spring Baptist Church Building Fund, 554 Sunny Slope Dr., Cowpens, SC 29330. The family expresses a special thank you to Doris's church family and friends for their love, concern, and prayers. The family is at their respective homes.
