Doris Turner Odom, 102, of 400 Webber Road, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at White Oak Estates. Born March 20, 1907, in Rutherfordton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Hosea Arvil and Nancy Phillips Bell and the youngest of eight siblings who are all deceased. In 1932 she married the late Robert Fletcher Turner and had three children. After his death she then married the late Lucian Astor Odom. A 1927 graduate of Limestone College, she taught school in Gaffney, SC, for several years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg. Doris is survived by her three children, Doris Turner, Robert Fletcher Turner, Jr. and his wife Joyce, all of Spartanburg, and Nancy Turner Healey and her husband Charles of Birmingham, AL; her twelve grandchildren, Hunter Church and Laura Church of Atlanta, GA, Cole Church of Arden, NC, John Church of Spartanburg, Joe Church of Charleston, SC, Susan Culver Bailey, Anna Culver Ballenger, Jon Culver, and Lindsey Healey Dykes, all of Birmingham, AL, Rob Turner of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Nancy Turner McClinton of Asheville, NC, and Nathan Turner of Boulder, CO; and twenty great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life was held on her 102nd birthday this year and attended by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at a reception from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2009, in the Parlor of the First Presbyterian Church. A private burial will be conducted by Dr. David Renwick.
