Doris “Dot” Simmons Garrett, 95, a longtime resident of Spartanburg, passed away on July 12, 2024, at Piedmont Post-Acute in Piedmont, SC. Dot was born on December 20, 1928 in Spartanburg, SC, and was a daughter of the late Thelma Parsons Simmons and William Carey Simmons. She was married to the late William Walter “Bud” Garrett for 71 years.
Mrs. Garrett worked at Spartanburg Medical Center (Spartanburg Regional Medical Center) as an Operating Room nurse for 37 years. She was a member of Roebuck Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Lynn Simmons of Easley, SC, Donna Butler of Springs, TX, and Julie Stennett of Fort Worth, TX; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband and her parents, Dot was predeceased by her son, Tim Garrett, and her siblings, Maria Lowe, Jean Simmons, Ellen Cogdil, Paul Simmons, and W.C. Simmons.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tim Williams. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
