Doris Byars

Doris Ruth Holcombe Byars of Spartanburg passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Ruth Holcombe. A 1951 graduate of Fairforest High School, she was an avid basketball player and cheerleader. She was one of the first YMCA women lifeguards at the Cleveland Park swimming pool in Spartanburg. Mrs. Byars was retired from the J. C. Penney Company after 37 years of service where she served as Advertising Manager and Head Money Room Clerk. Surviving Mrs. Byars is a son, Ricky "Charlie" Byars and his wife Betty; a grandson, Jamie; three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Kandace, and Matthew; an aunt, Blanche Watson, her daughter, Elaine Hill and her husband Jerry, and their three sons, Kenny, Jimmy, and Mark of North Carolina. Say a special prayer for her beloved dogs, LuLu and Sandy, the loves of her life. Mrs. Byars was a very sweet, loving, and caring person to everyone who knew her.
