Donna Turner Melton

Donna Turner Melton,78, died Monday, June 26, 2023, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Calhoun, GA, she was born February 14, 1945, a daughter of the late James and Louise Rogers Turner.

She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, Spartanburg Methodist College and received her Bachelor’s and Masters degrees from Winthrop University. She retired after 39 years of service with Spartanburg County School District 7, having taught in various elementary schools. She was awarded the Frances Downard Award by the Spartanburg County District 7 Board of Trustees. She was an avid bird feeder, enjoyed working in her flower garden, family gatherings and lunch meetings with fellow schoolteachers known as “The Cleveland Girls”, Glyn Shackelford, Carolyn Moore, Miclo Wall, Lynda Leonard, Julia Kirby, Gail Ballard and Judy Bazemore.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Earl B. Melton, sisters, Norma Brown of Lexington, NC, Wanda Hayes of Moore, Linda Tisdale, of Spartanburg, and Angela Crumpler of Burlington, NC; seven nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 29, 2023, from 2:00 to 2:45 PM at Floyd’s North Church Street Chapel.  Memorial services will follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Andy Case.
