Donald "Don" Ernest Parks, 77, of 1607 Springfield Road, died April 12, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born December 1, 1931, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late William Ernest and Inez Bailey Parks. He was a retired M/Sgt with the U.S. Air Force following twenty years of service, a Vietnam Veteran, and a recipient of the Bronze Star. He then retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad after twenty two years of service. He was a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church of Valley Falls and an avid golfer. Surviving is his wife, Beatrice Ledford Parks; two sons, Michael Parks and his wife June of Boiling Springs, and Bill Parks of the home; a daughter, Lori Hawkins and her husband Scott of Boiling Springs; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Parks, Jeff Parks, Donnie Parks, Bryan Williams, Christina Harvey, Jaime Ison, Eric Smith, Tyler Hawkins, and Casey McPeters; and two great grandchildren, Kellan Harvey and Colton McPeters. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Crosby. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2009, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at the First Baptist Church of Valley Falls conducted by the Rev. John C. Lancaster, Jr. and the Rev. Phillip Welchel. Burial with full military rites will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Valley Falls Building Fund, 8352 Valley Falls Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. The family is at the home.
