Donald Knighton

Donald H. Knighton, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born in Enoree, SC, he was the son of the late Charlie Jefferson and Lois Ponder Knighton. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Knighton was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church and a self-employed construction contractor. Surviving is his beloved wife of 53 years, Shelby Rumsey Knighton; daughter, Donna Alexander (Jeff) of Columbia, SC; granddaughters, Brooke and Courtney Alexander; nephew, Wayne Word of Laurens, SC; and niece, Gail Rhodes of Clinton, SC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Word; and a brother, Lewis Knighton. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, June 13, 2014, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Buffalo, SC, by the Rev. Melvin Shelton and the Rev. James Goudelock. Burial with military rites will be in Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Building Fund, 2153 Mt.
