Donald Kirby

Donald Lee Kirby, 77, of 170 Glenn Springs Road, a loving husband and dedicated father, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born February 20, 1933, in Pacolet Mills, SC, he was the son of the late Milon and Faire Belle Glenn Kirby. A graduate of Pacolet High School and Nashville Diesel College, he was retired from Arrow Automotive with 40 years of service. He was a member of Pacolet First Baptist Church, a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War, Past Master of Trough Shoals Masonic Lodge #228, and a member of the Hejaz Temple. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. Survivors include his wife, Carrie Petty Kirby; a son, Donnie Kirby and wife Joan of Pacolet; two granddaughters, Taylor Kirby of Boiling Springs, and Charla Tippin-Smith and husband Kenneth of Taylors; two sisters, Leatrice Phillips of Pacolet Mills, and Alma Tony and husband Larry of Big Canoe, GA; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Frank Hood. Masonic rites will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. with visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2010, at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Pacolet First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Tommy Sparks and the Rev. Joel Garner. Burial will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pacolet First Baptist Church Bus Fund, 310 West Main Street, Pacolet, SC 29372.
