Donald Greene

Donald Benjamin Greene, 81, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born February 6, 1928, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Adrian Toy Greene, Sr. and Keturah Georgia Hamrick Greene. A graduate of Wofford College, he was retired from GMAC with 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon. He was currently working at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Guest Services. He was a hospice volunteer for 21 years with 5,000 volunteer hours, past president of the Hospice Board, and the 1992 Spartanburg Regional Health Person of the Year. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Melva Godfrey Greene; two daughters, Betsy Henderson and her husband Alex of Aiken, and Lori Bastin and her husband Barry of Spartanburg; a son, Ben Greene and his wife Bernadette of North Saanich, British Columbia, Canada; three granddaughters, Molly Greene, Talia Greene, and Rebecca Henderson; and three grandsons, Xan Henderson, Benjamin Henderson, and Connor Bastin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009, at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. The family will receive friends following the service in the Welcome Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to Morningside Baptist Church, 897 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
