Donald Ray Bain, 80, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, March 29, 2018. Born August 22, 1937, in Sparta, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Elzie Elmer Bain and Eva Kent Bain. Mr. Bain graduated from East Tennessee State University and then served briefly in the US Army Reserves. After that he went to Charlotte, NC, where we was employed with Ernst & Whinney. Upon moving to Spartanburg, Mr. Bain worked with Synalloy Corp and then later as CFO at Diversco, Inc. before retiring to spend time with his family. Don was a kind, loving man who always seem to have a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a way of making those around him feel better for having been in his presence. He was generous and kind and was happy to help anyone in need. He has volunteered on various boards including the Children's Shelter of the Upstate. He was also a Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, and an Elder at Westview Christian Church. Surviving him are his wife of 58 years, Roberta Ornduff Bain; children: Donald Ray Bain, Jr. (Gayle) and Robert Timothy Bain (Tina) of Spartanburg, SC, Michael Allen Bain (Angela) of Chester, SC, Beverly Carruth (Steven) of Spartanburg, and Alisha Parks (Garry) of Irmo, SC, grandchildren: Jessica Watters (Joshua), Christopher (Elizabeth), Katelind Sims (Justin), Christopher (Eleanor), Robert, Tiffany, Garrison and Trevor Carruth, Annabel and Connor Parks, David Acosta (Deanna), Gabriela and Rebekah Acosta; and his great grandchildren: Bodhi Watters, CJ, Ryan, and William Bain, Hayden and Landen Sims, Sam, Emi and Ben Acosta; and his brother, Elzie Elmer Bain, Jr., as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Bain; his sisters, Eloise Clayton, Margaret Meeks, and Glenda Hall; and his nephew, William Bolus. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. David Wilson and the Rev. Kerry Crum. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
