Diana Lynne Alcorn Olencki peacefully passed away July 29, 2017, at home surrounded by her family following a four year battle with cancer. Diana was born June 17, 1954, in Columbia, SC, and was the second daughter of Edwin Alcorn and Mildred Smith Alcorn. Her siblings are sister, Pat Dickerson, and brothers, David and Jeffrey Alcorn. She was married to Mark Steven Olencki for 34 wonderful years. They have a son, Charles Weston, who is 24 years old and makes his home in upper Manhattan, NY. Diana finished her undergraduate degree at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, and her Masters +30 degree at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. She was a passionate and outspoken art educator of 38 years in public education starting at Spring Valley High School in Columbia and then moving to Whitlock Junior High School in Spartanburg and finally retiring after 30 years from Woodruff High School. In addition to being a gifted fiber artist, with works appearing in numerous private collections throughout the Southeast, Diana was an avid music arts supporter and gardener. Diana left this world a better place for being in it, with her love for her family, her students, her friends, and her garden. Diana touched the lives of hundreds of students, and she will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 12, 2017 in Leonard Auditorium in Main Building at Wofford College, 429 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29303.
