Dewey "Ed" Welchel

Dr. Dewey Edward Welchel, 69, of Spartanburg, SC died Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Upstate Community Hospice House. Born January 24, 1953 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of Carolyn Welchel Tracy and the late Dewey Sanford Welchel, Jr.

Dr. Welchel was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and the University of South Carolina where he earned a Bachelor, Master, and held an EDD in history.

Ed was a professor at Wofford College from 2000 – 2021, a former teacher at Dorman High School and Woodruff High School, Boiling Springs High School, and Wilson High School in Florence, SC.

Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Welchel Trace of Boiling Springs, along with numerous cousins.

A Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Michael Grooms and The Rev. Charles M. Clark, along with eulogists Mrs. Christie Johnson and Mr. Michael Brown.
