Derrick Reid Lancaster

Derrick Reid Lancaster, age 62, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023. He was born on March 16, 1961, in Great Britain to parents, George Reid Lancaster and Mavis Collins Lancaster.  He was also the devoted husband of Melody Wood Lancaster.

Derrick had an extraordinary career that spanned over decades. For 32 years, he served as an Environment Specialist with the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). His tireless efforts and commitment to his work left an indelible impact on the field. After retiring from DHEC, Derrick continued to contribute his expertise as an independent contractor.

Outside of his professional life, Derrick cherished his role as a devoted family man. He shared 35 beautiful years of marriage with his loving wife, Melody Wood Lancaster. Their marriage was one built on love, trust, and mutual support. Together they created a warm and nurturing home for their children whom they adored.  He is survived by his children, Rebeccah Bautista, (Diego), son, Tanner Lancaster (Alesha), granddaughter, Alanna Bautista, and two sisters, Tonie L. Ward (John) and Mandy L. Smith (Randall).

Derrick loved history, especially SC state history.  He enjoyed going to museums and historical places all over the state.  He read extensively about the state history and loved to share what knowledge he had with others. 

Throughout his life, Derrick cultivated an unwavering love for nature. He found solace exploring the great outdoors and aspired to leave behind a better world for future generations. His commitment to environmental conservation will continue to inspire others to follow in his footsteps.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 2:45 pm, Sunday, January 7, 2024, in Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.  His funeral service will follow at 3:00 in the chapel.  Burial will commence immediately following the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd, Spartanburg SC 29307.  Chaplain Sean Fortner will officiate.

While our hearts ache with grief over the loss of such a special man, we find solace in celebrating the life of Derrick Reid Lancaster. The impact he made on this earth will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him.
May his soul find eternal peace as he rests in the embrace of nature that he cherished so deeply.
