Dennis Boan

Dennis Allen Boan, 49, of Cowpens, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born April 4, 1961, in Statesville, NC, he was the son of Carolyn Freeze Benfield of Statesville and the late James E. Boan. He attended Mitchell Community College in Statesville and was retired from the Spartanburg City Fire Department and a longtime employee of The J. F. Floyd Mortuary. He was a State Constable, a member of St. Francis Anglican Church, and the Cherokee County Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). Surviving in addition to his mother is his wife, Annette Hutchins Boan; a brother, Edward K. Boan of Concord, NC; and two sisters, Susan Troutman of Statesville, NC, and Gail Barnes of Las Vegas, NV. He was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Claire Boan. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rt. Rev. Timothy B. Farmer and the Rev'd Canon Robert H. Long. The family will receive friends following the service at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Anglican Church, 601 Webber Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307; or to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
