Demetra Demas Leventis, 104, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born May 2, 1908, in Arahova, Karyae, Greece, she was the widow of James George Leventis and daughter of the late Nicholas and Marigo Mentavlos Demas. Mrs. Leventis was co-owner of Leventis Package Store. Prior to coming to America, she was a professional mid-wife from 1932-1950 in Karyae, Greece. She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and a member and former president of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society. In 1984 she was recognized as Mother of the Year by the Society, in 2004 she was honored by the Society as a 50-year member, and in May 2008 she was honored by the church on her 100th birthday. She was also a long time member of the Wofford Terrier Club and a life member of Adelphotis Arahoviton Karyae Society and the Ladies Society of Karyae. Surviving is her only child and very beloved son, George J. Leventis of Spartanburg. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Monday, December 17, 2012, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. George F. Nayfa. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
