Delores Stockman

On Wednesday, March 30, 2011, Delores Shepard Stockman, 80, of Spartanburg, joined many family members and friends in the presence of her Heavenly Father. Delores was born on May 11, 1930, in Knoxville, TN, to the late Hugh Cawood and Myrtle Miller Shepard. In 1941, Delores and her family moved to Spartanburg and soon joined Hayne Baptist Church (now United Baptist). Until her declining health, she remained a faithful member, later serving as church secretary for 25 years. She and her husband also held the office of church treasurer. She was also a member of the choir, Women's Missionary Unit, Friendship Sunday School Class, and pianist for the Children's Department and Vacation Bible School Delores enjoyed the visits by her pastors, family members, church friends, and granddog Pookie during her recent illness. She was a kind and loyal friend who will truly be missed. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, class of 1947, and Cecil's Business College. Her first job was secretary in the office of Carolina Scenic-Trailways, downtown Spartanburg. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Leon Edwin Stockman, and her youngest child Rose Marie Stockman Hunter in 2010. She is survived by her son, Richard Cawood Stockman of Spartanburg; daughter and son-in-law, Camille Stockman and Timothy D. Buchanan and grandsons, Timothy Blake Buchanan and Jared Nicholas Buchanan all of Boiling Springs. Delores is also survived by two sisters of Spartanburg, Betty Ann S. Long and Nancy Carolyn S. Skogman; sister-in-law, Sharon S. Jones of Lyman; brother-in-law, Michael Bernard Whalen of Inman; and son-in-law, Jimmy Hunter of Inman. Her oldest sister, Roberta S. Rabun, died in 2009. Also preceding her in death was her niece, Patricia Lynne Long; sister-in-law, Merle Ann S. Whalen; and brothers-in-law, Robert O. Rabun, Coit C. Long, Dale N. Skogman, and Alex Jones. Other surviving family members include nieces, Cheryl R. Martin of Pauline; Beth L. and Leslie Marvin Charles of Inman; Cindy L. and Dennis Ellis Mason and Courtney of Inman; Lori Ann W. and Randy Leathers and Eli of Williamston; and Kathy L. Easter of San Jose, CA; nephews, Shane R. and Amy M. Martin, Ashlyn and Aidan of Glenn Springs; Stephen C. Long of Spartanburg; Wesley and Susan Whalen, Chase and Tyler of Spartanburg. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, April 1, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Emory, the Rev. Jack Weaver, and longtime family friend, the Rev. John Lynch. A eulogy will be delivered by her nephew, Shane Martin. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Our family will be forever grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Gibbs Cancer Center and the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home for the gentle, loving care and many acts of kindness shown to our precious Delores.
