Mrs. Deborah “Debbie” Lynn Hughes Riley, 63, of Hickory, NC, went peacefully to be with her Savior and Lord on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at her residence.
Debbie was born of September 3, 1957, in Spartanburg, SC to the late James Naubert and Ethel Henson Hughes. She was a double Master’s Degree graduate of Converse University in Spartanburg and was currently attending El Bethel Baptist Church in Morganton. Debbie was a devoted elementary school teacher for 41 years, and she enjoyed participating in many church activities, such as teaching Sunday School, directing Vacation Bible School, participating in the bus ministry and singing in the choir. Debbie was also a beloved wife and mother who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, John Riley of the home; her daughter, Elizabeth Riley of Concord, NC; her son Andrew Riley of the home; a brother, Terry Hughes and wife Freda of Spartanburg; a nephew, Brandon Hughes; a niece, Jennifer Bush; a dear aunt, Myrtle Guy; a loving cousin, Phyllis Guy; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 6, 2021, from 12:00-1:00 PM at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC, 29307. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel, conducted by Rev. Justin Cunningham. Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
