Dean Horton

Lloyd Dean Horton, 64, of Irmo, SC, died Friday, April 8, 2016, at his home. Born April 12, 1951, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late John Calhoun Horton and Catherine Irene Ballard Horton. A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Horton served as Specialist at Headquarters Medical Command at Ft. Sam Houston. He was a graduated of USC-Spartanburg and the honored recipient of the Earl Gordon Medal of Honor. Dean was the owner of Carolina Residential Mortgage and Home Designer Mortgage Lending. He was a former member of Park Hills Baptist Church in Spartanburg and current member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church and also attended Union United Methodist Church in Columbia, SC. Survivors include his children, Jared Dean Horton and Jamie Gwinn Horton of the home; and sister, Cheryl Horton Ellefson of Murrells Inlet, SC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Claudia Horton Harrison. Visitation will be 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service, with military rites by the U. S. Army Honors Team, will follow at 2:00 PM in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery, 5555 Parris Bridge Rd., Boiling Springs, SC 29316, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jack Millwood, Jr. The family suggests that in remembrance of Dean, everyone wear casual clothing to his service. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 251 Saddlebrook Drive, Moore, SC 29369.
