Dean Abbott

Paul Dean Abbott, Sr., age 75, of 225 W. Brookwood Lane, Cowpens, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 9, 2012. He was married to Barbara Gossett Abbott for 56 years. Born on October 8, 1936, he was the son of the late Ralph L. Abbott and Myrtle Gilbert Abbott. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Cowpens, SC, where he was a member of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class and served as a deacon for 42 years. Mr. Abbott was a native of Spartanburg County, a graduate of Cowpens High School, and the owner/operator of Abbott Farms Fruit Markets and Abbott Gas Company. He served his community as a former member of Cowpens City Council, Spartanburg County Farm Bureau, and the Spartanburg Area Transportation Committee. Survivors include his wife and three sons, Paul D. Abbott, Jr. and wife Susan of Spartanburg, Steven G. Abbott and wife Sheila of Cowpens, Daniel Bo Abbott and wife Summer of Cowpens; twelve grandchildren, Angela Humphries and husband Ty, Amber Spencer and husband Jarred, Brooke Hilliard and husband Joey, Alex Abbott and wife Shealyn, Jessica Schultz and husband Patrick, Holly Browning, Rebecca Abbott, Madeline Church, Jordan Church, Andrew Crowder, Savannah Terry, and Carter Terry; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah and Kaylee Humphries, Ivy Hilliard, Randi and Kara Schultz, Austin and Jada Browning; one sister, Helen Abbott Petty; and two brothers, Gary Wayne Abbott and John L. Abbott. He was predeceased by a brother, Billy Abbott. Dean was a kind and generous man who loved his family, church, and friends. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Mountain View Baptist Church in Cowpens. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, March 12, 2012, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Steven Griffith, the Rev. Jeff Pangle, and the Rev. Chris Emory. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Alex Abbott, Jordan Church, Joey Hilliard, Ty Humphries, Patrick Schultz, and Jarred Spencer. Honorary Escort will be the Adult Men's Sunday School Class and Deacons. Memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304. The family is at the home located at 225 W. Brookwood Lane, Cowpens, SC.
