Dawson Nicholson

Dawson Thompson Nicholson, 76, of 105 Greenbriar Road, died Saturday, December 11, 2010, at her home. Born December 27, 1933, in Goldsboro, NC, she was a daughter of the late John Wilkerson and Lilla Mae Dawson Thompson. She was a graduate of Converse College and a former elementary school teacher until beginning her family. After the children were grown, she worked with ETV Endowment for 25 years, where the association with her coworkers was always especially endearing. She was also very active with the Junior League of Spartanburg and the Converse Alumni Association, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Dawson was known for her quick wit and sense of humor. Her greatest passion was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and a dear friend to young adults. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, John E. Nicholson; three daughters, Ruth Ann N. Cash and Martha N. Vest, both of Spartanburg, and Nancy N. Pennell of Greenville; a son, John E. Nicholson, Jr. of Spartanburg; three sisters, Ann Sorrels of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Mae Henry of Rocky Mount, NC, and Katherine Thompson of Goldsboro; a brother, John Thompson of Goldsboro; five grandsons; and five granddaughters. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Steve Holler and the Rev. A. Mickey Fisher. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, PO Drawer 2909, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
