David Smith

David Floyd Smith, 66, of 340 Riddle Road, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, surrounded by his wife and family following a lengthy illness. Born August 14, 1943 in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Floyd Harvey and Elizabeth Hughes Smith. Mr. Smith retired as a supervisor from Neely Building Supplies after 43 years of service. He was a 1961 graduate of Roebuck High School, a member of Morningside Baptist Church, a past member of Philadelphia Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, and a member of Calhoun Masonic Lodge # 81. An avid sportsman, he was also a member of the Spartanburg Gun Club. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Diane Chastain Smith; a daughter, Sherry S. Parris and her husband Mike of Pauline; a grandson, Jeffrey William Parris of Pauline and his fiancée, Katie Hammond of Duncan; and a sister, Faye Peterson of Charlotte, NC. He was predeceased by a sister, Sue Rose. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely and Rev. Reid Bowyer. Visitation will follow the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Journey Hospice, 420 The Parkway, Ste. N, Greer, SC 29651.
