David William Nicholson, retired Ophthalmologist, passed away on Saturday evening, March 8, 2025. He was the son of the late Dr. Frank and Catherine Nicholson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy. He leaves behind a sister, Mary Nicholson and three daughters. David was very proud of his daughters. They are Dr. Katherine Nicholson, DMD, and Heather Lassiter, RN (Allen) of Spartanburg, SC and Melanie Nicholson Chiplinski, Esq. (Kristopher) of Little River, SC. He also leaves behind six grandchildren. They are Logan and Conner Price and Jason Lassiter of Spartanburg, SC, and Karoline and twins Quincy and Grant Chiplinski of Little River, SC.
Dr. Nicholson had the honor of serving the people of our country, not the government, as a flight surgeon in the US Air Force in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. As a crew member, David participated on multiple bombing and refueling missions, receiving the Air Medal. Although he was proud of his military service, he had mixed feelings about the war. He believed the Second World War was justifiable, the Vietnam War was not.
A graveside service will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Dr. B. E. Pettit and military honors by the US Air Force Honors Team.
