David Hurst

David Patrick Hurst, 67, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, August 9, 2015. Born April 4, 1948, in Teaneck, NJ he was the son of the late Richard Stewart and Patricia Heitel Hurst. Lovingly known as Mr. David by hundreds of Spartanburg County kindergarteners, he was a longtime teacher at The Honey Tree and Campobello Gramling School in Spartanburg District 1. After retiring from teaching, David worked side by side with his father to build megaphones that were shipped across the globe. David leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Alice McCracken Hurst, and two beloved sons William Asher and Daniel Edward and wife Callie; grandsons William Bennett and Henry Tucker (who call him "Dobby") and brothers, Richard Stewart Hurst, Jr., and Anthony Murray Hurst, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Cynthia Ann Hurst. A celebration of life will be held at the home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2015. No flowers please.
