Darryl Thomas Smith passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 31, 2025. Born on April 20th, 1967, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Darryl was the son of the late Bobby Joe Smith (Bob) and Nancy Thomas Smith.
Darryl was a lifelong member of Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church. He retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation. A dedicated and supportive member of the community, he formerly volunteered for Croft Rescue Squad and Glenn Springs-Pauline Fire Department. Darryl was also known for his generous spirit and love of others. He was especially passionate about children and made a positive impact on their lives.
Darryl is survived by his mother, Nancy Smith; sister, Renee Kennedy (Foster); brother, Bobby Joe Smith, Jr. (Cindy); nephews, Jonathan Hart (Claire), Bradley Smith; nieces, Taylor Thomas (Jesse), Anna Rogers (Jamie); grand-nieces, Reese Hart, Charlotte Hart, Ella Grace Thomas, Olivia Thomas; Logan Smith, Payton Smith; grand-nephews Mason Smith, and Gavin Smith. As well as his loving aunts, Joyce McCain and Mickey THompson (Freddie), his many cousins, and his caregiver, Tanya McCracken.
Darryl also had a pet Labrador, Lucy, who was always by his side and great company to him throughout his lengthy illness.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church, 6001 Highway 215, Pauline, SC 29374. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Officiating the services will be the Rev. Dr. B.E. Pettit and Mr. Kevin Horres. Following the services, a visitation will be held in the Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church Community Outreach Fund at P.O. Box 279, Pauline, SC 29374.
