Danny Powell

Danny C. Powell, 65, of 612 East Harbour Crest Drive, died Sunday, February 7, 2010, at his home after a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born July 18, 1944, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of Edward Cecil and Virginia Horton Powell of Boiling Springs and the husband of Laine Lawson Powell. A graduate of Boiling Springs High School, he attended Wofford College and was vice-president of Thompson Brothers Exterminating. He was a member of First Baptist Church North Spartanburg and loved old cars, especially corvettes. Danny was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving in addition to his parents and wife is a son, Darren Powell and wife Anita of Lake Bowen; a daughter, Robin Hawkins of Spartanburg; two step-sons, Jeff Palmer and wife Laura of Spartanburg, and Cameron Millwood and wife Hannah of Greensboro, NC; a brother, Lynn Powell and wife Jesse of Boiling Springs; and nine grandchildren, Neely and Corey Powell, Alex Gagn, Jordan, Olivia, and Abby Hawkins, Austen Palmer, Finley and Strider Millwood. An informal visitation will be held from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010, in the Fellowship Hall at Northbrook Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon at the Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Dickard. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jeff Horton, Dicky Turner, Roy Sample, Don Jolley, Jason Jolley, Neil Nichols, and Norman Parr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Boulevard, Suite 101, Spartanburg, SC 29301; or to Northbrook Baptist Church, 1881 Boiling Springs Road, Spartanburg, SC 29316.
