Dan Bennett

John Daniel "Dan" Bennett, 72, of Moore, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by the family he loved on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC. Dan was a kind, loving servant of his Lord Jesus Christ, a wonderful example through his roles as husband, father, grandfather, and neighbor on this earth. He was a sincere student of the Bible and an example of Christ through his friendships and service to others. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Charlene Grant Bennett, and sister, Sandra Bennett McKinney of Spartanburg; his son, Brian Bennett of Hickory, NC; his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Dana Bennett and grandsons, Daniel Bennett and Jonathan Bennett, of Hickory, NC. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dorothy Hubbard and Clyde E. Bennett and infant brother Clyde Edwards Bennett, Jr. Dan graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1959 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University in 1963 and a Master of Science degree in Sanitary Engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1968. He was retired from the Spartanburg Water System as a civil engineer for over 20 years. Dan also served his country in the Army from 1964 to 1966. He was active in the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Water Works Association, and the National Society of Professional Engineers. Dan served his Lord through his church community at First Baptist Church as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Young at Heart member, Yesterdays Teens member, The Helping Center assistant, and Sanctuary Choir member. He loved to study the Bible and served on several mission trips through this church. Dan will be remembered as a gentle, loving man, sincere in his faith, and devoted to his family. His grandchildren were the joy of his days. He loved his Clemson Tigers and pulled for them win or lose. He will be missed, but remembered through the lessons he taught through his Christian example and Biblical priorities. Visitation will be 9:30-10:45 AM on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton, the Rev. Sal Barone, and Chaplin Donald Gibson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
