Dewey Earl Blackwell, of Inman, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at his home. Born October 24, 1928, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late William Harrison and Clarice Allen Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell was a U. S. Navy veteran and retired as a Major from the City of Spartanburg after 40 years of service as a police officer. He was a member of United Baptist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of St. John's Lodge, a Shriner, a past deacon at his church, and current State Constable. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Lorraine Hallman Blackwell; daughters, Vicki Blackwell (Bill Ballinger) of Spartanburg, SC, and Karen Potter (Claude) of Roebuck, SC; son, Bill Blackwell (Dina) of High Point, NC; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Joanne Cannon of Spartanburg, SC; and his beloved pet, Eva. A graveside service, with Masonic rites, will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 23, 2012, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, by the Rev. Robert Emory.
