Curtis O'Dell McDowell, 89, of Spartanburg, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at his home. Born May 5, 1923, in Danville, VA, he was the son of the late James V. and Betty Hall McDowell. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II and Korea, Mr. McDowell was retired from Spartanburg Water Systems. He was a member of Fernwood Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Margaret Turner McDowell; brother, David McDowell of Danville, VA; sister, Elizabeth Mills of Danville, VA; and nephews, Harold Smith of Tyler, TX, Ray McDowell of Danville, VA, and Marvin W. McDowell Jr. of Danville, VA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Marvin W. McDowell; and sisters, Doris Smith and Virginia M. French. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 17, 2013 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Dr. Dean Allen. Visitation will be at the graveside following the service.
