Colman O'Connell

Colman Barrett O'Connell, 52, of Inman, SC, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015, after a short battle with melanoma. He is survived by his wife, Anne; his sons, Brendan and Daniel; daughter, Christine; parents, Daniel and Aline O'Connell; sisters, Siobhan Scro and Caitlin O'Connell-Rodwell; and brother, Daniel. Colman was born in New York City, and grew up in Wyckoff, N.J. He graduated from Don Bosco Prep in NJ, and then Belmont Abbey College and later earned a master's degree from the University of South Carolina. Colman began his career in the textile industry at Milliken and Company and traveled throughout the world in the textile field. At the time of his death, he was working for Cambodia Textile Worldwide in Pnom Penh, Cambodia. He regularly commuted between Pnom Penh and Inman to be with his family. Colman was generous with his time and his skills. He actively worked to support an orphanage in Cambodia, helping to obtain clothing, supplies, and equipment for the children, and even a safe water system. Colman loved showing visitors the historic sites, scenic glories and ancient temples of Cambodia. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Spartanburg. Colman loved water sports and music; but most of all, he loved his family. The family will receive friends and visitors 6:00 - 9:00 PM, Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Hwy. 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. Funeral services will held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 290 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, conducted by the Rev. David R. Whitman. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 176, Landrum, SC 29356. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cambodia Care, John and Tess Castledine, c/o 600 Lakewinds Blvd., Inman, SC 29349.
