Clyde Edward Davis, II

November 5, 1946 — August 6, 2024

Spartanburg

Clyde Edward “Eddie” Davis, II, of Inman, SC, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, in the comfort of his home. Born in Spartanburg to the late Clyde Edward Davis, Sr. and Frances Hensley Davis, he was also the husband of the late Janet L. Stein Davis and devoted father of Joshua Berry Davis.

After graduating from Spartan High, he enlisted in the Navy where he served his country during the Vietnam War. He served on-board the USS Charles S. Sperry (DD 697) as an ST1 (Sonar Technician). Embodying the true spirit of patriotism and honor he achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He came home with a quiet sense of valor and was not one to talk about his military service much. Clyde earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at Southern Technical Institute, which is now known as Georgia Tech.

Throughout his career, Clyde worked as an Electrical Engineer, making significant contributions at AT&T in Georgia and Alcoa in South Carolina. His dedication to his profession was unmatched, and his expertise shone brightly in all that he pursued.

Clyde was an active member of the Freemasons for most of his life, first becoming a mason at the Snellville, GA lodge #99. He served in many notable positions, within the Grand Lodge and local lodges, including Lodge Master at the Delmar, SC #422 and Inman, SC #201 lodges.

Clyde was widely known for his years-long involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. As a young man, he participated in Scouts at his local church, First Baptist in Spartanburg, SC. As an adult Clyde served in several positions in his local community and helped guide his son, Joshua, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. He served as an advisor for the local Skyuka Lodge in Spartanburg, SC. Clyde’s lifelong dedication was recognized, and he was bestowed The Vigil Honor within the Order of the Arrow.

Clyde's interests extended far beyond the realms of his professional life. He found solace among the horse and buggy community and traveled along the east coast forging lasting friendships. His workshop, where he piddled around with model railroading and restoring horse tack, bore testament to his craftsmanship and passion for preserving the past while paving the way for the future.

In the face of adversity, Clyde exemplified resilience and strength. After the loss of his beloved wife, Janet, he embraced his role as a faithful parent, raising his only son, Joshua, with unwavering love and care.

A man of many talents, Clyde's stubborn spirit and kind heart touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he influenced throughout his journey. May his soul rest in peace, knowing that his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
