Clinton Earl Henderson, 90, was the devoted and loving husband of Peggy McClellan Henderson for 67 years, and devoted and loving father to his son Clinton M. Henderson, granddaughter, Heather Henderson, and two great grandson's, Joshua Dane and Jacob Levi Brooks. Mr. Henderson died Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born in Tucapaw, now Startex, SC, September 8, 1921, he was the son of the late Robert Bennett and Johnnie Ballenger Henderson. Mr. Henderson was a graduate of W. L.T. High School. He served in the U. S. Navy, in World War II, aboard a destroyer escort attached to the 7th Fleet. His ship made a complete trip around the world, sailed through both the Panama Canal and Suez Canal, and crossed the equator twice. The ship Mr. Henderson served on went into Formosa and helped liberate the prisoners that were in the death march from Bataan to Japan. His ship was with the U.S.S. Missouri when the Japanese went aboard and signed the peace treaty that ended World War II. Mr. Henderson retired from the Norfolk Southern Railway with 38 years service at Hayne Yard, Spartanburg, SC. He was born into a family of 11 children and is survived by one brother, Jerry Henderson; four sisters, Thelma Dunn, Ruby Cox, Maxine Kennedy, and Delores Thomas (Charles); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers. Mr. Henderson was a member of Beaumont Baptist Church, and a former member of Cudd Baptist Church for many years. Clint was dedicated to the Lord, his family, neighbors, and friends. He will be fondly remembered for his constant smile. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, February 2, 2012, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Danny Garrett, the Rev. Rupert Guest, and the Rev. Brian Harris.
