Pauline

Claude Cleveland Horton, 86, of Pauline, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. A native of Spartanburg, he was a son of William Claude Horton and Kathryne Harley and Wras Lee.

He attended Carlisle Military Academy, Clemson University, the Citadel and served in the US Marines and was a legionnaire at American Legion Post 28 in Spartanburg. He was a proud member of his church family at Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church where he was a former Deacon. He was a corporate pilot with Diversco Corporation as well as many other companies. Flying was his passion as well as skydiving, a stunt pilot and scuba diving. He loved to fly anything with wings, flew helicopters, and a flight instructor who taught many people to fly. He traveled all over the world for work and leisure, forever the jokester and lived life to the fullest. He and Gail loved to dance and were members of the R and B Shag club. He was a great husband, father, Papa and friend, and lived an extraordinary life that touched many. He was “a pilot’s pilot” and took his final flight and is on cloud nine.

Surviving is his wife of wife of 66 years, Gail Elias Horton; a son, Craig Horton; daughter, Kathy Horton Prass (John); grandchildren, Josh Horton (Whitney), Dillon Davis (Raechel), Carley Horton Godfrey (Price) and Amber Davis; great grandchildren, Griffin Davis, Mia Hughes, Parks Godfrey and Bowen Godfrey; two nephews, Joe Burchette and Pete Whitlock (Helen).
