Christine “Miss Chris” Wofford Woodsby, 95, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, December 24, 2021 at NHC Healthcare. Born August 26, 1926 in Campobello, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Guy and Evie Allen Wofford.
After graduating from Campobello High School in 1943, she was employed at Community Cash store for several years and Roses Variety store for 26 years. After retirement from Roses, she was employed at First Baptist Spartanburg for 19 years in the nursery department. She found the work at First Baptist most rewarding and became known as “Miss Chris” to the children she had the privilege to love, parents and co-workers. As an active member of First Baptist Spartanburg, she was involved in the Early Fellowships Sunday School Class, WMU, ROTO and Young at Heart. She also did volunteer work in The Encouraging Word Prison Ministry.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Ezzell of Greenville, SC, her sons, Gene Woodsby (Linda) of Newton, NC and Keith Woodsby of Spartanburg, SC; grandsons, Jason Woodsby (Jennifer) of Denver, NC, Cory Ezzell (Robyn) of Greenville, SC, and Chris Cooper (Jo) of Spartanburg, SC; great-granddaughters, Ava Woodsby and Emerson Woodsby of Denver, NC; great grandsons, Mac Ezzell and Henry Ezzell of Greenville, SC; and her sister, Nan Coates of Spartanburg, SC. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Allen Wofford, C.G. Wofford, Jasper Wofford, and Phillip Wofford, her sister, Eleanor Eubanks, former husband, Dennis Woodsby, and many friends who were so dear to her.
Visitation will be 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM Friday, December 31, 2021 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Sal Barone. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that donations be made to First Baptist Spartanburg, The Encouraging Word Prison Ministry, P.O. Box 2110, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
The family is grateful to all the staff at NHC-Greenville and Caris Healthcare for their loving care to our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.
