Chris Hansen

Christen Maynard Hansen, 75, of Spartanburg, died peacefully at his home in Spartanburg, SC, on Tuesday, July 19, 2011. He was born January 19, 1936, in New Deal, MT, the son of the late Christen Myrl Hansen and Verena Gwenn Houghton. Chris spent his early years in Montana, before moving to Salt Lake City as a teenager. He was a 1960 graduate of the University of Utah and served in the U. S. Army, in Germany, from 1954-57. He married Nancy Capener Evans on June 27, 1956, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active and faithful member of the LDS church. He raised his family in California and Wisconsin, before moving to South Carolina in 2005. Most of his career was spent in information technology with several companies, before launching his own consulting practice. He loved teaching, whether in religious, professional, or academic settings, and until shortly before his death, was an instructor of computer science at USC-Upstate. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy Evans Hansen of the home: four children, Scott (Linda) Hansen of Appleton, WI; Michael (Jeanne) Hansen of Portland, OR; Suzanne Hansen of Pewaukee, WI; and Keith (Lynne) Hansen of Spartanburg, SC; along with 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson; a brother, Henry (Elaine) Hansen of Tempe, AZ; and a sister, Elaine Lusson of Marceline, MO. He was preceded in death by his older brother Albert. Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 PM Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 121 Quail Drive, Spartanburg. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, in the church, conducted by Bishop Casey Eichhorn.
