Chester Samuel "Sam" Lancaster, 94, of Spartanburg, SC, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Eden Terrace Senior Living. A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Chester Sorrels and Winifred Alverson Lancaster and husband of the late Nancy Eubanks Lancaster. Sam was a graduate of Gramling High School and the Coyne Electric College in Chicago, IL. A U. S. Army veteran, Sgt. First Class Lancaster served during World War II for two years in China, Burma, and India. He spent two years in the 18th Airborne Corps at Ft. Bragg during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Lancaster retired as co-owner of G&E Parts Center, Inc. An active member of the business community, he was in the Lions Club since 1966 and was a former member of the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce. He was a long-time faithful member of Morningside Baptist Church where he served several times as Sunday School Director, was a deacon for many years, and was a member of the Royal Sunday School Class. He loved keeping his yard beautiful, going to Atlanta Braves spring training with his daughter every year, and sending personal birthday greetings to a wide circle of friends and family. In the past year, he especially enjoyed weekend visits from niece, Joyce Phillips, and great-grandniece, Madison Bailey, who always brought ice cream treats to share. Survivors include his daughter, Dr. Patricia Lancaster of Winter Park, FL; his step-grandson William K. Gallo, Jr. who resides in Hawaii with wife Stacye and children Will and Marcella. He was an affectionate and caring "Uncle Sam" to many nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren. Mr. Lancaster was predeceased by three brothers, Pinckney, Clifford, and Jack Lancaster; and two sisters, Rosa L. Rogers and Louise L. Setzer. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, April 25, 2014, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely.
