Charlotte Lynn Mathers, a beloved member of the community and a devoted wife, mother, and friend, passed away on July 15, 2023. She was born on April 16, 1949, in Del Norte, CO to Carol Ann Barker and the late Billy Ben Pippenger. Charlotte leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and compassion that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
After graduating from Durango High School in 1967, Charlotte found a lot of different things to do. She served as the Women's Ministries Coordinator at Southside Baptist Church, where she touched countless lives with her kindness and dedication. Charlotte also pursued opportunities as a saleswoman and entrepreneur, building meaningful connections with those she encountered along the way.
She was most proud of her family, and the time they spent together. She loved planning holidays, special meals, and activities for vacations and weekends. She included so many others in her family and built strong relationships with friends. She was a wise and good-humored confidant who always pointed to Christ. She was a prayer warrior. She always had ambitious ideas and projects, and she was tenacious in making them happen. One of her favorite projects was the garden she created with her husband, including beautiful flowers and a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables. She was best when anyone needed help or care; she would jump in and find creative ways to meet any need. We will all remember her easy and hearty laugh, and her constant and earnest prayers. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength, offering solace during difficult times. Charlotte's legacy will be eternally marked by the love she so selflessly gave to her family and friends.
Charlotte Lynn Mathers is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, John Robert Mathers, who shared in every aspect of her remarkable journey. She will be lovingly remembered by their children: Karyne Mathers Urquhart and her husband Paul Urquhart, along with their children Kestor and Brody; John Robert Mathers Jr. and his wife Jennifer Mathers, together with their children Benjamin, Zachary, Abigail, and Anna; Alicia Mathers and her son Jeremiah Addia Brown; Kimberly Davis; Emily Mathers; and Anndrea Mathers.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her father, Billy Ben Pippenger. She leaves behind her mother Carol Pippenger, age 94.
