Charles Wilkins

Charles Thomas "Dickie" Wilkins, 93, of Pacolet, died Monday, June 13, 2011, at Park Place Assisted Living-Spartanburg. Born May 31, 1918, in Cherokee County, he was the son of the late John Laxton and Lillie Mae Lee Wilkins and husband of the late Lottie Phillips Wilkins. Dickie managed and owned Pacolet Mills Service Station and Canteen known as "The Filling Station" and retired from Home Security Life Insurance Company, Spartanburg, SC. He enjoyed working with Real Estate during his time of retirement. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he received numerous awards which included two Purple Hearts. He was a member of Pacolet Mills Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn W. Hodge and husband Michael T. of Pacolet; two granddaughters, Terri H. Rhodes and husband Dan of Spartanburg, and Malinda H. Bridges and husband Chris of Cowpens; two great-grandchildren, Daniel Philip Rhodes, Jr., and Lottie Kristin Bridges; one brother, William R. "Bill" Wilkins and wife Tony of Spartanburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Margie Wilkins and Pearlie Mae Phillips, and three brothers, J. W. Wilkins, John Earl "Turl" Wilkins, and Robert E. "Spide" Wilkins. Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 PM Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Norman Band. Burial will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bobby Wilkins, Mike Wilkins, Gary Wilkins, Terry Phillips, Jeffrey Wilkins, and Jay Wilkins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pacolet Mills Baptist Church Family Life Center, PO Box 660, Pacolet Mills, SC 29373; or Journey Hospice, 1983 South Pine St., Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home of his daughter, Carolyn W. Hodge, 211 Pine Dr., Pacolet, SC.
