Dr. Charles Stanley Thorne, 74, passed away at his home in Boiling Springs, SC on Friday morning, January 24, 2025.
Charles was born on July 23, 1950 to the Rev. Charles D. Thorne and Frances Sprinkle Thorne. He grew up in the Carolinas, following his father’s career in the Baptist ministry. After graduation from Concord High School in 1968, he attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and graduated in 1972. He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina School of Dental Medicine in 1976. Along with his wife who managed the dental office, Dr. Thorne enjoyed practicing family dentistry in Boiling Springs, SC from 1976-2015.
Charles is survived by his wife, Beverly; his sons, Todd Thorne (Mitzi) and Jeremy Thorne (Anna); his daughter, Amy Parkin (Scott); his grandchildren, Chase Thorne (Aubrey), Tanner Thorne, Maddox Parkin, Britian Parkin, and Tori Parkin; a great-grandson, August Thorne; and a nephew, Brian Tate. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Michael Thorne, and his sister, Marilyn Thorne.
Charles lived a full life. He loved music and was talented in playing multiple instruments. He enjoyed playing live music around Spartanburg County. During retirement, he volunteered his talent by playing at several nursing homes in the area. He was The Beatles biggest fan and never missed watching a UNC Tar Heels basketball game. He was a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held 1:00-2:30 pm Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Floyd’s Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Highway 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at Good Shepherd Memorial Park, 4164 Highway 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
The family will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boiling Springs Business Association Scholarship Fund, PO Box 160217, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
