Charles Spencer

Charles Gary Spencer, 92, of 850 John B. White Sr. Boulevard, formerly of Crestwood Place, died Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born April 16, 1918 in Haywood County, NC, he was the son of the late Frank McMillian and Etta Stephens Spencer and the husband of the late Jean McPherson Spencer. A Spartanburg High School graduate, he retired from Southern Railway and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he taught the Men's Sunday School Class and was a former deacon. He was a member of the Optimist Club. Survivors include a sister, Winifred Cavin of Spartanburg; a nephew, Mike Cavin of Greensboro, NC; a niece, Jean Henderson of Warner Robbins, GA; and special friends, Joe and Neeley Higgins of Stone Station. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2010 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Scott Linnerud. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 577 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
