Charles T. Snipes, 82, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, October 11, 2010. Born May 6, 1928 in Anderson County, SC, he was the son of the late John E. and Ethel Tinsley Snipes. He was owner and operator of a small business, Charles T. Snipes Motors, served as Spartanburg County Sheriff from 1961-1968, a former SC Highway patrolman and a railroad detective for Southern Railway. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from December, 1950 to December, 1952 during the Korean War and a fifty year member of American Legion Post 28. In addition to his wife of fifty-one years, Kay Carpenter Snipes, he is survived by a son, Tommy Snipes and wife Lisa of McDonough, GA; two daughters, Anne Page and husband Rad of Irmo, SC, and Jo Murphy and husband Rodney of Wellford, SC; seven grandchildren, Joshua Murphy, Luke Murphy, Anna Kate Murphy, Will Snipes, Thomas Snipes, Bryce Page and Blake Page; two brothers, J. T. Snipes of Honea Path, SC and Bill Snipes of Greenwood; and a sister, Susie Owens of Lexington, SC. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 15, 2010 at Morningside Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely and Dr. Jim Carpenter. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories, Belton, SC. Honorary escorts will be present and former deputies of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's office and the Royal Sunday School Class of Morningside Baptist Church.
