Charles Payne

Charles Henry Payne, 81, of Campobello, SC, died Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. Born November 23, 1935, in Greer, SC, he was the son of the late Morris Charles Payne and Vera Waters Payne. A U. S. Navy veteran, Mr. Payne was a graduate of Taylors High School and Spartanburg Jr. College. He received his BS Degree from Newberry College, MA Degree from Furman University, and attended the FSU Doctoral Program. He was an educator in Pensacola, FL, Brentwood Junior High and Middle School 1961-1990 and a member of Apalache Baptist Church in Greer, SC. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sybil Bailey Payne; son, Charles T. Payne of Campobello, SC; sister, Janis Payne of Greer, SC; and brother, Everett Payne of Berea, SC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ashmore Payne. Visitation will be 6:00 -8:00 PM, Monday, January 30, 2017 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Chapel, by the Rev. Eddie Cooper and Mr. Richard Chapman. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family will be at the home of Sybil Payne.
