Charles Mason

September 28, 1926 — March 18, 2013

Charles E. Mason, 86, of Boiling Springs, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at his home. Born September 28, 1926, in Campobello, SC, he was the son of the late Elbert E. and Mary Lillie Parris Mason. A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served with the 432nd Engineering Construction Battalion in Germany driving heavy equipment trucks into France to build temporary tent cities during the Korean Conflict. He was formerly employed by Drayton Mill, Beaumont Mill, and Hamrick Mills. He was a member of Northbrook Baptist Church of Boiling Springs where he served as a former trustee, deacon, and member of Adult 6-A Sunday School Class. He enjoyed going on summer mission trips and doing Saturday projects with his church. He was a former member of First Baptist Church of Pacolet where he served as a deacon and RA leader. He also enjoyed coaching Little League football with Ed Bryant at Pacolet Elementary School. Charles was also a member of Trough Shoals Masonic Lodge #228, Glendale Chapter #175 Order of the Eastern Star, and Palmetto Obedience Training Club, Inc. Surviving is his beloved wife of 59 years, Edna Steadings Mason; two daughters, Charlene Mason of Seneca and Gayle Mason (Bob Leitke) of Greenville; a son, Wayne Mason (Marion Ann) of Startex; a granddaughter, Kari Mason of the home; Grandpa to Kesley Carter of Spartanburg; a sister-in-law, Easter S. Fisher of Pacolet; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold E. (Lola Mae High) Mason and Robert L. (Mary Henderson) Mason; and brothers-in-law, Bobby Fisher and Charles Steadings. Receiving of friends will be 1:00-2:30 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Northbrook Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Benny Green and the Rev. Dr. Wayne Dickard. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northbrook Baptist Church Building Fund, 1881 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. A special thanks to the caregivers at Rosecrest Lutheran Homes of South Carolina-Inman and Hospice Care of South Carolina for their loving care.
